Gamification during the teaching of genetics at the Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design
Abstract
It is known that theoretical competence on a number of professional issues does not guarantee the success of practical activities. It is also an obvious fact that emotionally colored events are better remembered and leave a bright mark. The listed psychological laws are the basis of such an interactive learning method as a role-playing game. In order to keep up with the demands of the times, the teacher needs to become Homo ludens – a person who plays: introduce game simulation into the learning process. Despite the fact that 87 years have passed since the foundation of the philosophy of play by the Dutch cultural historian Johan Huizinga, each generation of teachers, taking into account specific circumstances, finds new aspects and improves pedagogical tools. The Aim. The creation and use of game forms in the teaching of genetics through the theatricalization of gene expression processes. Methods. Theatricalization, directing techniques. Results. The paper presents the experience of using game forms (gamification) in teaching genetics, namely, the molecular basis of heredity, at the Department of Biotechnology, Leather and Fur, Faculty of Chemical and Biopharmaceutical Technologies of Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design (KNUTD). Conclusions. Active game components based on theatrical action have a certain potential and can be useful in the process of teaching genetics.
